Today we went on a tour in Clinica Biblica a private hospital (where we attend classes) located in San Jose city. The hospital is a non-profit hospital and gives some of it's funds to other organizations including indigenous populations in Costa Rica. Throughout the hospital it was evident to see that it was well maintained, clean, orderly, and new. All the patients had individual rooms in every ward. It was said many international patients tend to come to Clinica Biblica because almost all of their staff is bilingual (including our teacher) and it has a very clean feel.
While walking around Clinica Biblica I noticed how new everything seemed. Since it is a private hospital it is good to see that people's money is being well spent. Even though people have to pay extra to be patients at that hospital it's clear that they would get professional help with whatever they needed.
I really enjoyed the tour of the private hospital. It was interesting to see different staff working in different fields. The nurses still where "old uniforms" and the doctors looks similar to those in the U.S. There are many other people that work at the hospital including nursing assistants, people who sterilize the equipment, different types of doctors and more people. The hospital to me feels like a resort, which makes sense because Clinica Biblica get a lot of medical tourism from other countrie including the United States.
It's interesting to learn about the different sectors that exist in the healthcare systems of Costa Rica. The next tour I will get will be of a Public Healthcare clinic. I imagine I will see many differences.
